Labyrinth of Jareth

Labyrinth of Jareth is a giant, crazy, awesome costumed fantasy ball loosely based on the movie, and held at the Park Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles each summer.  Yeah, I said summer.  I am very late in posting this.

I heard about it for the first time while I was chatting with a couple other students in the corset-making class I took last year.  At the time, I had no interest in it because it was out of my price range.  I am, after, a lowly student.

However, over the summer, I was browsing CGW's events page, when I saw that they needed volunteers to help with the costumes.  What the heck, I wasn't doing anything else.  I'd go help.

Turns out that volunteers were given free admission to the event.

Whohooo!

Of course, then I needed a costume to wear.

Ah, the beauty of the mix and match.  I have two shirts, two skirts, one overskirt/bustle apron/thing, and a pair of weird pants and all go very well with my corset.

Volunteering backstage was more fun than the event itself (and the ball was very fun).  I got to meet so many people (actually, I'm pretty sure that I met almost all of the actors and dancers that needed costumes.  The group of volunteers I was working with handled making sure the right person got the right clothes, and I did a lot of the recording of who-took-what) and I really enjoyed seeing them out of character backstage, and then being at the ball, with my mask on, and recognizing them (even though none of them recognized me).

And now, I will hush-up and let the pictures do the talking.  All pictures are courtesy of Cher (name shortened for privacy, as always), who was one of the other volunteers I worked with.

Hey look, it's me with my co-volunteers!  (I love this because both of them are very tall, so I look even shorter than I normally am.)
